Update:

At 6:50pm, 14/09/09, I succesfully completed my 840 mile ride! It took me 7.5 days riding time, with a further 1/2 day lost to appalling weather in Scotland, and a full day lost to rear wheel problems! Ironically, the spoke failures were the only problems I encountered (aside from punctures), with all of the vintage bike components performing very well indeed!

To those of you that posted comments on the blog...thank you! Downloading emails onto my phone was always a treat every evening, as so many people posted comments on a daily basis! & on those days where I had punctures/spoke failures, being able to read words of encouragement were just what I needed! So thank you.
The ride itself was certainly a challenge. Indeed, I thought that I'd have to quit the ride in Scotland, as my right knee was in no condition to ride. However, a hefty dose of pain relief tablets, along with the addition of a knee brace, helped me to ride for 3 days using my left leg (I'm particularly glad that the weather turned nice for those three days, as riding with just the one leg for power really isn't much fun!)

Judging by your comments, & the fantastic amount that has so far been donated, I am very pleased that I managed to complete the ride (if a little disappointed to have missed my 7 day target!). So to those of you that have supported my ride, thank you! Though you may not see the effects of your donation, you can rest assured that your donation will make a very real difference to the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable people.

To those that have yet to donate, please take a look around the website. I'm sure if you spend just a short time on the 'charities' tab, you will find more than enough justification to send a donation their way.

Thank you
